Anthropic puts Claude Fable 5 back into Max and Team Premium subscriptions

Claude Fable 5 is coming back to subscriptions. Anthropic announced on July 18, 2026 that beginning July 20, Fable 5 will be included in all Max and Team Premium plans at 50% of limits.

Who gets what

Max and Team Premium subscribers get Fable 5 as part of the plan, capped at half of their normal usage limits. Pro and Team Standard users stay on usage credits and receive a one-time $100 credit to soften the difference.

The usage-credit pricing itself does not move: $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. That is twice the price of Opus 4.8 and the top of Anthropic’s price list.

A reversal worth noting

This is not a routine plan update. Fable 5 was supposed to leave subscriptions entirely after July 7. Then the included access was extended to July 12, and then again to July 19, each time hours before the cutoff.

Anthropic’s explanation is unusually direct for a pricing announcement: demand for Fable has been challenging to predict, and the company rolled the model out in stages while securing capacity. Read between the lines and you get a picture of the whole industry’s constraint in miniature. Even the lab that builds the model cannot always serve as much of it as people want.

What it means in practice

For anyone who works with Claude daily, the takeaway is simple. From Monday, July 20, Anthropic’s most capable model is part of the plan again rather than a metered add-on, provided you are on Max or Team Premium.

For everyone else, the calculation stays the same: Fable 5 remains available, but on credits, at the most expensive rate Anthropic charges. Whether the included allocation or the pay-as-you-go path makes sense depends on how heavily you lean on the top model versus Opus 4.8 for everyday work.
